Ukraine war: Russia executing own retreating soldiers, US says

International
Russia is executing soldiers who try to retreat from a bloody offensive in eastern Ukraine, the White House has said. According to the US, some of the casualties suffered by Russia near Avdiivka were "on the orders of their own leaders". Russian and Ukrainian troops have been locked into a fierce battle for the frontline town since mid-October. Russia is thought to have suffered "significant" losses in this time. Ukrainian estimates put the number of Russian casualties in Avdiivka at 5,000, while the US says that Russia lost "at least" 125 armoured vehicles and more than a battalion's worth of equipment. A Ukrainian army spokesperson said that Russian troops were refusing to attack Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka because of heavy losses and that there had been mutinies in...

In a crucial session at the United Nations Security Council on Monday night, Ghana abstained from voting on a resolution proposed by Russia concerning the conflict in Gaza. Out of the Council's 15 members, the Russian-led draft received five votes in favour (China, Gabon, Mozambique, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates) and four against (France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Notably, Ghana was the sole African country to abstain, while Gabon and Mozambique voted in favour. Other abstentions included: Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Malta, and Switzerland. Russia to blame for food insecurity in Africa – US

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield has stated that "Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine" is the reason for a food insecurity crisis on the African continent. According to her, the conflict has led to price increases and additional suffering for Africans. Speaking in an interview on CNN before the start of a three-nation trip to Africa, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield rejected suggestions by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that sanctions imposed by the West on Russia had caused the rise in food prices. She added that Russian food and agricultural products were not affected by US sanctions. "What we are concerned about is that that narrative is not factual. The reason that there is a food insecurity crisis on the continent of Africa at this ...

Man sets fire to church because his wife kept donating to it

International, World News
Tired of seeing his family’s money being donated to the local church, an exasperated Russian man set the place of worship a blaze in a feat of rage. On the morning of June 26, a fire broke out at the Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Pargolovo, Russia’s Saint Petersburg district. The fire quickly engulfed the wooden roof and walls of the building, and the entire place would have probably burned to a crisp until the firefighters arrived, if the parishioners didn’t put the fire out themselves. Still, the damage was considerable, and local news outlets reported that many of the locals had tears in their eyes as they looked at their local place of worship. But that sadness quickly turned to anger directed at the man responsible for the devastation. In the beginning, ...

The Church, through its officer-in-charge of Hungary, Elder Kwesi Asemanyi, and other team members, has successfully processed about 1,000 people, fully registered them, and given them accommodation, food, and water, and subsequently handed most of them over to their respective embassy representatives. So far, the Church, through the International Missions Office, has spent a substantial amount of money on the upkeep of the evacuated Ghanaian stude...
