The Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) in Gomoa Fetteh is set to host a two-day partnership workshop that will bring together over 200 experienced Ghanaian scientists to address food security challenges in the country. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ghana’s leading public scientific research institute, is organising the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI). The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) and its subsidiary, the Asian African Consortium (AAC), are also partners for the event. 4 die in Kenya while ‘fasting to meet Jesus’

Four people were on Thursday found dead and nearly a dozen others hospitalised in Kenya’s coastal Kilifi county, after being rescued while waiting the imminent end of the world. Police said the group was found in a forest where they had been living for several days after being told a local preacher to fast while “waiting to meet Jesus”. The authorities said they rescued 11 people – six of them were emaciated and in critical condition. Police said they will resume a search for more members of the group on Friday morning following reports that others were still in the forest. Police are reported to have found a fresh grave in the forest which will be investigated on Friday. South Africa’s first black engineer honoured

South Africa has honoured the country’s first black student to graduate with a degree in engineering. Dr Solomon Boyce Isaac Lefakane studied civil engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and was awarded a degree in 1961 – when the racist apartheid system was in operation. Now, as part of the university’s centenary, Dr Lefakane, now 84, has been inducted into a brand new hall of fame at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment. Dr Lefakane was the son of a domestic worker and gained a scholarship to pursue his studies. “I knew I was facing very heavy odds at the time and I worked as hard as I could,” he told the BBC’s Focus on Africa radio programme.
