The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) (www.SECAM.org), the association of Catholic Bishops of Africa, Madagascar, and the Islands, has elected His Eminence Richard Kuuia Baawobr of Ghana as its new President. His Eminence Richard Kuuia Baawobr is now the highest-ranking member of the Roman Catholic Church in Africa. Ghana has made it onto the list of countries with the cheapest mobile data in the world. This conclusion came from a survey conducted by The Worldwide Mobile Data Pricing 2022 report. It was compiled by Cable.co.uk which saw data from 5,292 mobile data plans analysed from 233 countries. The findings were based on how much one gigabyte (GB) of data costs in the selected countries. Ghana placed 40th with an average price of $0.61 (¢5.12) per gigabyte after 12 data plans were examined. In Africa, however, Ghana is ranked second after Libya. Somalia and Morocco came in third and fourth, respectively. In all, Israel comes top with $0.04 per GB, followed by Italy, San Marino and Fiji as countries whose users enjoy the cheapest mobile data. The Ghana Police Service has expressed reservations about the report on corruption perception survey conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). A research conducted by the GSS together with CHRAJ and UNODC ranked the Ghana Police Service as the most corrupt institution in the country. The Ghana Police Service and the Office of the President are perceived as the country’s most corrupt institutions. This is the outcome of an Afrobarometer study undertaken by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). The research found that the Police’s score of 65% placed it at the top of the chain while the Presidency followed in second position with 55%. The report also placed members of Parliament as the third group of people in the pack with a score of 54%. Per the assessment, positive ratings of the President’s performance declined by 31 percentage points between 2019 and 2022, from 61% to 30%. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and religious leaders have been ranked as the most trusted institutions in the country in the year 2022. This ranking was contained in the latest Afrobarometer study conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) which bordered on democratic governance, trust in institutions and corruption. The CDD-Ghana survey revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces topped the chart with a total score of 67 percent. Followed by religious leaders with 49 percent. The Nigerian government has shut down one of its colleges in the capital, Abuja, over fears of attack by armed gangs. In a statement on Monday, the education ministry said the closure of the Federal Government College in the city’s suburb of Kwali became necessary over insecurity in nearby villages. It said a security breach in Sheda and Lambata villages threatened the school – after gunmen attacked Sheda on Sunday morning, kidnapping a resident.
