The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has directed all its regional and sector commanders to institute stringent measures at all points of entry into the country and intensify patrols following another jailbreak in Nigeria. Nigeria, on the night of Wednesday, July 6, recorded a jail break at the Kuje Maximum Security Prison in Abuja, with official reports indicating at least 443 out of 879 inmates that escaped as a result of the jailbreak still on the run. A statement issued in Accra by the GIS said it was believed that the jihadist group, Boko Haram, were behind the attack which saw the use of high end explosives and guns that freed all 64 Boko Haram linked inmates at the prison and were among the escapees still on the run. The Ghana Health Service has asked all health workers, especially Regional and Teaching Hospitals to be on the lookout for the outbreak of the Marburg virus disease following two fatal cases in the Ashanti Region. Health workers are to “exercise a high index of suspicion for persons who may present with bleeding tendencies”, a statement issued by the GHS, signed by its Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye counseled. A Nigerian has been extradited from Ghana to the United States over his alleged involvement in fraud and information theft against some victims in Northern Ohio, and other places. 31-year-old Blessing Adeleke had earlier been arrested in Accra by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, March 14, 2022. He is facing 17 counts of indictment with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and 16 counts of bank fraud using an online business. The Mental Health Authority (MHA) in Ghana has revealed that relationship breakups (divorce), graduate unemployment and financial distress are the leading causes of suicide in Ghana currently, especially among the youth between 16 and 35 years. Those causes have especially shot up among the youth in recent times, reports Graphic Online's Maclean Kwofi.
