The Ghana National Fire Service says ten fire incidents were recorded on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Accra. This comes after a bakery and some shops were burnt at Kotobabi Abavanna Down and a similar incident at Circle Tiptoe Lane which also led to the destruction of several shops. Although no casualties were recorded, properties worth thousands of cedis were lost to the inferno on Sunday. Earth tremors hit parts of Accra; social media users react

Barely an hour after a couple of earth tremors hit some parts of the Greater Accra Region, some social media users have taken to their timelines to share their experience. Trending at number two on Twitter, some tweethearts are still in shock while others sought to confirm if what they felt wasn’t peculiar to them. The tremors are said to have occurred around 10:00 am and 11:53 am respectively at an estimated magnitude 4.0, 10 km from Gbawe. Some residents of Kokomlemle, Kaneshie, Achimota, Adenta, Circle, Osu, Ablekuma Manhean, Accra, New Town, Legon, Dansoman, Kasoa, Haatso, Kwashieman, Teshie, Nungua, McCarthy Hill among others said they felt the earth tremor. The Accra-Tema passenger train service will resume full operations next week after it was suspended for nearly two years, the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) has said. The Company said it had initially planned to resume operations earlier this week after series of successful test runs, but had to reschedule to next week after another test run on Tuesday, March 08, 2022. “We have conducted series of successful test run. The plan was to start the commercial running on Tuesday but yesterday there was another test run. A group calling itself the ‘Aggrieved Public Sector Workers’ will stage a demonstration in Accra today, Wednesday, August 18, 2021. The group is embarking on the protest against the 4% salary increment the government has proposed for public sector workers, as well as what it calls poor working conditions and general high cost of living. The group wants public sector salaries to be increased by 25% instead. The Ghana Police Service has given assurances that it will provide security during the protest.
