Tears as Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, wife, and son laid to rest

The remains of the late CEO of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, and his wife Doreen Chizoba, along with their son Chizzy, were laid to rest on Saturday, March 9, in a private mausoleum at Wigwe University in Isiokpo, Rivers State. The institution was founded by Dr. Wigwe. Mourners gathered at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo for a funeral service, followed by a burial at the family’s private tomb around 2:45 pm. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow as the caskets were lowered into the ground. The Wigwe family tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash near the California-Nevada border in the United States on February 9, 2024. A journalist, Richard Dela Sky has filed a lawsuit against Parliament at the Supreme Court regarding the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The controversial bill was unanimously passed by legislators on February 28, 2024, after years of deliberation. Pressure is intensifying on President Akufo-Addo from Members of Parliament to sign the bill into law. However, the President has already indicated that he will refrain from giving his assent until the court makes a pronouncement on the case. The bill proposes a three-to-five-year jail term for individuals who promote or sponsor LGBTQ activities, while those caught in the act are to be sentenced to a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 3 years. Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual has been unsuccessful. She had intended to beat the official 119-hour record set by Alan Fisher. But in a press release posted on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 3, Chef Faila announced that her attempt did not meet some of the stringent guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR).  “A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt,” part of the statement read. After nearly three years of deliberation, Parliament has finally passed the highly contentious Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The bill, introduced in the House years ago, was approved unanimously on Wednesday, February 28, following the completion of the third reading. Proposed amendments to the bill were rejected by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, during the session. The bill is now slated to be forwarded to President Akufo-Addo for his assent. The Ghana Congress on Evangelisation (GHACOE) Women’s Ministry, a non-denominational Christian organisation, has donated 500 pieces of 250ml liquid soaps to The Church of Pentecost towards the funeral of Apostle Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy. Apostle Dr Ntumy, a former Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), passed away on December 27, 2023. His memorial and funeral service is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the forecourt of the State House.
