India to overtake China as world’s most populous country in 2023 – UN

World News
India is on track to overtake China as the planet’s most populous country next year, according to a U.N. report published on Monday. The report, from the population division of the U.N.’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs, said China and India were each home to over 1.4 billion people in 2022. “India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country during 2023,” the U.N. said. The Indian government’s census for 2011 put the country’s population at more than 1.2 billion. “The global human population will reach 8.0 billion in mid-November 2022 from an estimated 2.5 billion people in 1950,” according to the U.N.’s report. Looking further ahead, the U.N. said its latest projections showed the global population could reach roughly 8.5 billion in 2030 and 10...

World population to reach 8 billion this year – United Nations

World News
The latest United Nations (UN) projections suggest that the world’s population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050, before reaching a peak of around 10.4 billion people during the 2080s. The population is expected to remain at that level until 2100. Slowest growth rate since 1950s However, the annual World Population Prospect report, released on Monday to coincide with World Population Day, also notes that the global population is growing at its slowest rate since 1950, having fallen to less that one per cent in 2020. Fertility, the report declares, has fallen markedly in recent decades for many countries: today, two-thirds of the global population lives in a country or area where lifetime fertility is below 2.1 births per woman, roughly the level r...

A/R: WORKERS AT SUAME MAGAZINE CALLS OUT GOV’T TO COMMISSION ABANDONED HOSPITAL

Ghana News, Health & Wellbeing
Workers at the Suame Magazine industrial area have called on government to commission an abandoned hospital facility that was established two years ago at the site. The fully completed facility which was going to meet the medical needs of the artisans and residents in surrounding areas has been left disused awaiting commissioning by government. Some workers on site, lamented that several attempts to commission the building have failed as stakeholders constantly call the ceremony off without a statement. The abandoned facility has been left at the mercy of some unscrupulous folks who are gradually turning the facility into a dumping site. Some of the artisans at the site have taken over the frontage of the facility to ply their auto servicing trade. From a top view, the buil...

Otto Addo assures Ghanaians new Black Stars additions aren’t here just for the World Cup

Ghana News, Sports
Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has dismissed the idea the new players who declare their readiness to play for the national team did so because of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Inaki Williams, Mohammed Salisu, Tariq Lamptey, Patrick Pfeiffer, Stephan Ambrosius and Ransford Yeboah are the six players to have been confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier this month. Following the announcement from the Ghana FA, there have been mixed feelings among Ghanaians with some claiming their decision to play for the Black Stars is solely based on the team securing qualification to play at the World Cup. However, Addo has played down such claims, adding that their decision goes beyond the global showpiece. “It’s a tough decision and they know what they are getting into. ...

A divided nation – the state and building of a national cathedral

Ghana News
In my observation of conversations dealing with the national cathedral project, I see a nation divided. In all the emerging issues and questions, I am particularly interested in the proper role of the state in such endeavours because how we resolve that question has serious implications for the future. In The Beginning How did we get here? Two statements from the President are important for my reflection. First, during his speech on Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary, he said: “I have, this morning, cut the sod for the commencement of the building of a national cathedral of interdenominational worship in our capital, Accra.” Secondly, at the launch of the National Cathedral Fundraising Campaign in 2018, he said: “The building of the national cathedral is to serve as a gesture o...

The pressure to score goals does not bother me – Jordan Ayew

Ghana News, Sports
Ghana and Crystal Palace forward, Jordan Ayew, has brushed off concerns over his inconsistent run of form in front of goal for both club and country. The 30-year-old struggled to score goals for Palace in the 2021/22 season managing only three goals in thirty-one appearances. The forward also went on a year goal drought for the national team until he scored a screamer in the Black Stars’ 4-1 defeat to Japan in the Kirin Cup on June 10, 2022. Prior to this, his only goal came in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 28, 2021. In an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold, Jordan stated that he is not bothered by the pressure he is getting for his lack of goals and that his only focus is to enjoy the game and ensure that ...

Assassin may have killed Abe as revenge against religious group that bankrupted his mother

International, World News
Tetsuya Yamagami, the man accused of assassinating former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was reportedly motivated by his hatred of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, also known as the Unification Church. Members of the Unification Church are sometimes referred to by a pejorative colloquialism derived from the name of the group’s founder — the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who considered himself to be the second coming of Christ. Japanese police have said that Yamagami told them he was motivated by animosity toward the religious group he blamed for his mother’s financial ruin, while a Tokyo-based representative confirmed on Sunday that Yamagami’s mother was a member of the church. Abe did not belong to the Unification Church, but he did give paid speeches at church-...

Man sets fire to church because his wife kept donating to it

International, World News
Tired of seeing his family’s money being donated to the local church, an exasperated Russian man set the place of worship a blaze in a feat of rage. On the morning of June 26, a fire broke out at the Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Pargolovo, Russia’s Saint Petersburg district. The fire quickly engulfed the wooden roof and walls of the building, and the entire place would have probably burned to a crisp until the firefighters arrived, if the parishioners didn’t put the fire out themselves. Still, the damage was considerable, and local news outlets reported that many of the locals had tears in their eyes as they looked at their local place of worship. But that sadness quickly turned to anger directed at the man responsible for the devastation. In the beginning, m...

Tell The World About Jesus – Apostle Nyamekye To Missionaries

Ghana News, Pentecost News
The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has charged ministers of the church missions field to declare to the world that Jesus Christ has atoned for the sins of the world. Apostle Nyamekye made this charge at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa-Fetteh, during the just-ended orientation for newly-called missionaries of the church. Addressing the missionaries, the Chairman of the church said that Jesus, who is the atoning sacrifice, did not only come to earth to die for believers, but He died for the sins of the whole world. “When you reject Him (Jesus), you reject the appeasing sacrifice that saves,” he said, stressing that the sceptre of the authority of the Kingdom of God is Jesus. According to the Chairman, Jesus is the only one who takes away the wr...
