Scotland first in world to make period products, including tampons and sanitary pads, free
Scotland has become the first country in the world to make period products free for all.
There is now a legal duty on local authorities to provide free items such as tampons and sanitary pads to “anyone who needs them”.
Products will be distributed through councils and education providers as the Period Products Act comes into force.
MSPs unanimously approved the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill in November 2020.
The bill was introduced by Labour MSP Monica Lennon, who has been campaigning to end period poverty since 2016.
She said: “Local authorities and partner organisations have worked hard to make the legal right to access free period products a reality.
“This is another big milestone for period dignity campaigners and grassroots mov...
Ethiopian Airlines suspends pilots who missed landing after falling asleep
Africa’s biggest carrier Ethiopian Airlines said it has suspended two pilots who reportedly fell asleep and missed their landing during a flight from Khartoum to Addis Ababa.
The plane overshot the runway at Bole International Airport in the Ethiopian capital on Monday before landing safely, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.
Independent website The Aviation Herald said the pilots fell asleep during the flight and were only woken up by an alarm triggered when autopilot mode disconnected.
The plane circled back to land 25 minutes later, flight data showed.
Ethiopian Airlines said on Friday that flight ET343 had temporarily lost communication with air traffic control but landed safely after it was restored.
“The concerned crew have been removed from operation pe...
Pilots fall asleep at 37,000 feet, miss landing
Two Ethiopian Airlines pilots fell asleep while flying a flight from Sudan’s Khartoum to Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa and missed their landing.
The incident took place on Monday, according to Aviation Herald, which added that the Air Traffic Control (ATC) raised an alert when flight ET343 approached the airport but did not start the descent.
While the pilots fell asleep, the Boeing 737’s autopilot system kept the plane cruising at 37,000 feet, the outlet further said.
It further said that the aircraft remained on the ground for about 2.5 hours before departing for its next flight.
The ATC tried to contact the pilots several times but couldn’t succeed. When the plane overflew the runway where it was supposed to land, the autopilot disconnected. That triggered an alarm, wh...
How The Church of Pentecost Is Helping To Save Our Planet
Notwithstanding the core mandate of the Church of God, The Church of Pentecost believes that the owner of the earth is God, the Heavenly Father, and, therefore, they must preserve their Father’s property.
Amongst the numerous interventions put in place by the leadership of the Church to preserve the environment is the “Environmental Care Campaign” which emanated from the Church’s strategic vision, dubbed “Vision 2023.” This aspect of the vision primarily focuses on community clean-ups, education on the need to keep our environments clean, promulgation and implementation of bye-laws, tree planting and plastic waste management.
The Church of Pentecost, a holistic church that so much espouses the principles and values of the kingdom of God, in June 2022, collaborated with the Forestry C...

Japan urges its young people to drink more to boost economy
Japan's young adults are a sober bunch - something authorities are hoping to change with a new campaign.
The younger generation drinks less alcohol than their parents - a move that has hit taxes from beverages like sake (rice wine).
So the national tax agency has stepped in with a national competition to come up with ideas to reverse the trend.
The "Sake Viva!" campaign hopes to come up with a plan to make drinking more attractive - and boost the industry.
The contest asks 20 to 39-year-olds to share their business ideas to kick-start demand among their peers - whether it's for Japanese sake, shochu, whiskey, beer or wine.
The group running the competition for the tax authority says new habits - partly formed during the Covid pandemic - and an ageing population have led to a...
Don’t antagonise leadership of church — Catholic priest
The Parish Priest of the St Kizito Catholic Church at Nima in the Accra Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr Nicholas Larsey, has appealed to the societies within the church not to antagonise the leadership of the church in their bid to have their say in the management of the church.
As Christians, he said, it was inappropriate for the parishioners to be fighting their priests over issues concerning the church.
He said while Christians were encouraged to speak out when they saw any wrong in society, including the management of the church, that should be done without malice and in a decorous manner and not out of disrespect.
Very Rev. Fr Larsey made the call at the plenary of the Accra East Regional Conference of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall.
The conference was dub...
