University of Education, Winneba gets new Vice-Chancellor.

The University of Education Winneba (UEW) has appointed Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual as Vice-Chancellor. This takes effect from October 1, 2023 after the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawotor Avoke, ends on September 30, 2023. Prof. Avoke will be retiring from UEW after almost 31 years of work. New VC Prof. Mitchual holds a doctorate degree in Wood Science and Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and has over 20 years of experience in teaching and administrative experience in higher education. Nkwatia Presby SHS Assistant Headmaster relieved of his duties for slapping student.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has relieved the Assistant Headmaster of Nkwatia Presby SHS for allegedly slapping a female student. The embattled Assistant Headmaster is reported to have assaulted the female student, believed to be in her second year, for going out of campus without an exeat. Following this, the GES in a press statement issued on Monday, August 28, condemned the conduct of the Assistant Headmaster. Teachers failing licensure exams a good omen – EduWatch

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has expressed satisfaction with the failure of the 6,451 candidates who took the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination in May. According to Mr Asare, it is the highest since the inception of the exam, which is designed to ensure qualified teachers in Ghanaian classrooms. During an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mr Asare highlighted the poor literacy abilities displayed in some of the scripts, particularly in English. The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in the Volta Region has been adjudged the overall best-performing tertiary institution in research in Ghana, by the AD Scientific Index Rankings, 2023. Prof. Seth Owusu Agyei’s research work in Malaria clinical trials, infectious diseases and epidemiology won the enviable position while Prof. Fred Binka and Prof. John Gyapong all of UHAS chalked the 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
