Christians must remain firmly rooted in God’s original design for humanity as they navigate growing conversations around identity, gender and sexuality in today’s society, Dr. Mrs. Grace Asante-Eduah has urged.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the Pentecost Conference 2026 in Oberhausen, Germany, Dr. Asante-Eduah said the Bible provides a clear foundation for understanding identity and purpose, stressing that every individual is intentionally created by God to reflect His image and fulfil His divine purpose.
Addressing the theme of identity, gender, sexuality and self-confidence, she began by highlighting the beauty of God’s diverse creation, noting that people from every nation, tribe and language have been called into God’s family.
She explained, however, that while humanity reflects diversity in many ways, Scripture also establishes God’s design for human identity.
Referring to Genesis 1:26-28, Dr. Asante-Eduah said God intentionally created humanity as “male and female,” adding that human beings were created not by chance but with purpose.
“Our identity begins with God,” she emphasised, explaining that mankind was created to bear God’s image and exercise stewardship over creation.
Drawing on passages including Isaiah 45 and Jeremiah 1, she noted that every person is known by God even before birth and is created with a divine assignment.
“The whole essence of mankind’s life,” she said, “is to reflect God and His image in the world.”
Dr. Asante-Eduah also explored the biological foundations of sex, explaining that human beings possess 23 pairs of chromosomes, with one pair—the sex chromosomes—determining biological sex as either XX in females or XY in males. She noted that these biological structures influence physical development and the production of hormones that shape the human body.
Contrasting this with contemporary discussions on gender, she observed that modern society increasingly distinguishes biological sex from gender identity, with some advocating a broader spectrum of gender identities based on personal feelings or self-identification.
She said these changing perspectives present new challenges for Christians seeking to remain faithful to biblical teaching while engaging thoughtfully with contemporary issues.
Throughout her presentation, Dr. Asante-Eduah encouraged believers to build their confidence and sense of identity on God’s unchanging Word rather than shifting societal trends, reminding participants that understanding who they are begins with understanding the One who created them.
Her presentation formed part of a broader panel discussion examining contemporary social issues through biblical, scientific and practical perspectives during the Pentecost Conference 2026.
