Our war is against Hamas for brutally attacking us – Israeli Ambassador to Ghana

The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Shlomit Sufa, has indicated that Israel’s conflict is squarely with Hamas, a terrorist organisation in Gaza.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, she emphasised that Israel’s fight is not with the Palestinian civilian population or Muslims.
In her view, Israel’s actions are aimed at countering a “terror entity” that is responsible for reigning violence and terror in their country.
“Hamas is a terrorist organisation that is working on the parameters and the ideology of ISIS. Our war is not with the civilian population, our war is not with the Palestinians, our war is not against Muslims, and our war is against a terror entity that has brutally and savagely killed whomever they could find along the way on October 7,” Ambassador Sufa told Evans Mensah.
She further explained the context of Israel’s actions, mentioning that Israel has faced a series of terror attacks and has suffered significant losses due to these attacks spearheaded by Hamas.
The Israeli government, according to Ambassador Sufa, is making every effort to minimise the impact on civilians and adhere to international legal standards.
“We are carefully making sure that the targets that we hit are legitimate in international law,” she said.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in a significant loss of life, and has been a subject of international concern and debate.
Israel contends that it is acting in self-defense against a terrorist organisation that threatens its security, while many international observers have called for de-escalation and the protection of civilian lives.
The situation remains highly complex and continues to evolve, with calls for diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the hostilities and address the underlying issues contributing to the conflict.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has previously declared the nation’s readiness for a ground invasion of Gaza.
Ambassador Sufa praised this decision, viewing it as a “war against evil.”
More than 1,400 Israelis were killed when Hamas attacked communities near Gaza on 7 October, shooting civilians dead in their homes, in the streets and at a music festival.
Gaza’s health ministry says more than 5,000 people have been killed since Israel began bombing the territory in response, flattening entire neighbourhoods.
