Israel’s borders explained in maps

Israel’s borders explained in maps

International, World News
More than 75 years after Israel declared statehood, its borders are yet to be entirely settled. Wars, treaties and occupation mean the shape of the Jewish state has changed over time, and in parts is still undefined. Here is a series of maps explaining why. The land which would become Israel was for centuries part of the Turkish-ruled Ottoman Empire. After World War One and the collapse of the empire, territory known as Palestine - the portion of which west of the River Jordan was also known as the land of Israel by Jews - was marked out and assigned to Britain to administer by the victorious allied powers (soon after endorsed by the League of Nations). The terms of the mandate entrusted Britain with establishing in Palestine "a national home for the Jewish people", so long as d...

Ghana News, World News
In a crucial session at the United Nations Security Council on Monday night, Ghana abstained from voting on a resolution proposed by Russia concerning the conflict in Gaza. The resolution, put forth by Russia, called for a humanitarian ceasefire, the release of hostages, aid access, and the safe evacuation of civilians in the war-torn region. Out of the Council's 15 members, the Russian-led draft received five votes in favour (China, Gabon, Mozambique, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates) and four against (France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Notably, Ghana was the sole African country to abstain, while Gabon and Mozambique voted in favour. Other abstentions included: Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Malta, and Switzerland. Fossils of ‘alien’ corpses displayed in Mexico’s Congress as UFO expert testifies

Science & Technology, World News
The fossilised bodies presented in glass cases by journalist and UFO scientist Jaime Maussan at Mexico’s parliament are said to be 1,000 years old. The bodies of two alleged “alien” beings were exhibited before politicians in a special session of the Mexican Congress. The fossilised bodies, presented by journalist and UFO scientist Jaime Maussan and displayed in glass cases, were retrieved from Cusco in Peru and are said to be 1,000 years old. “These specimens are not part of the evolution of our world. They were not recovered from a UFO scrap. They were found fossilised in a diatom moss mine,” Maussan said, testifying under oath. The session in the Mexican Congress comes weeks after another in front of the US Congress, but this appearance was much more sensational in its cont...
France halts iPhone 12 sales over radiation levels

France halts iPhone 12 sales over radiation levels

Science & Technology, World News
France has ordered Apple to stop selling the iPhone 12 for emitting too much electromagnetic radiation. On Tuesday, the French watchdog which governs radio frequencies also told the tech giant to fix existing phones. The ANFR has advised Apple that if it cannot resolve the issue via a software update, it must recall every iPhone 12 ever sold in the country. But the World Health Organization has previously sought to allay fears about radiation emitted by mobile phones. It says on its website there is no evidence to conclude that exposure to low level electromagnetic fields is harmful to humans. The iPhone 12 was first released in September 2020, and it is still sold worldwide. Apple told the BBC it was contesting the ANFR’s review, and said it had provided the regulator w...

iPhone 15: Apple forced to ditch lightning charger.

International, Science & Technology, World News
The iPhone 15 has been given a brighter screen and improved camera system Apple has confirmed its new iPhone will not feature its proprietary lightning charging port, after the EU forced the change. The tech giant said that the iPhone 15, unveiled at its annual event on Tuesday, would use a USB-C cable as the "universally accepted standard". A new Apple Watch series was also unveiled with a more advanced chip. But one analyst said a lack of "headline-grabbing" updates from Apple this year would disappoint some. "It isn't a surprise given the maturity of the iPhone and Watch," said Ben Wood from CCS Insight. "It reflects just how refined the iPhone and Watch devices are and how tough it has become to deliver truly disruptive updates every year." Apple released a USB-C-...

Apple lost $200 billion in two days after reports of iPhone ban in China Shares of Apple fell by 2.9% on Thursday following reports that China plans to expand a ban on the use of iPhones to government-backed agencies and companies. Apple (AAPL) notched its largest daily fall in over a month on Wednesday. The company lost about $200 billion in two days, and its stock is currently the worst performer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The bans could be an ominous sign for Apple. Malaria elimination has an impact on countries economic growth – Centre for Malaria Research reveals

Health & Wellbeing, World News
Analysis of malaria data from 180 countries shows that every 10 percent reduction in malaria cases was associated with an average rise of 0.3 percent in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The analysis shows that high burden, and low income countries have higher than average gains, in these countries same reduction in malaria was associated with an increase to the level of GDP per capita of nearly two percent. That indicates that those in charge of our economy must be interested in the national malaria Elimination agenda to strengthen efforts towards it. Professor Evelyn Ansah, Director Centre for Malaria Research at the University of Health, and Allied Sciences (UHAS) made this known at a virtual summit to mark the world mosquito day. She said the Elimination agenda calls for activ...
