20 million seedlings to be planted under GreenGhana project – Lands Minister

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has stated that over 20 million seedlings will be planted this year under the GreenGhana project. According to the Minister, these will comprise both economic and commercial seedlings. Five cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in the Eastern, Western and Greater Accra regions, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) says. One of the cases was recorded in a Ghanaian who travelled to the United States of America from Ghana. Ghana and Denmark have signed a renewed agreement designed to deploy modern technology on the Volta Lake to determine safe navigational channels to reduce accidents and their attendant deaths. The agreement is part of the third phase of the Strategic Sector Collaboration (SSC) between the two countries in the maritime sector. This phase of the project will be funded at a cost of 10 million Danish Kroner, equivalent to GH¢11 million, to run from 2022 to 2025. The Ghana Institute of Foresters (GIF) has cautioned the government not to go ahead with its plans to de-reserve part of the Achimota Forest as it could cause the country to lose more urban forest reserves. The Institute, instead wants the government to keep the urban forests as public lands to safeguard the vital environmental services they provide. Heavy traffic expected on Tema motorway as Ghana Highways moves to renovate bridges

Drivers and commuters on the Tema motorway should brace themselves for heavy vehicular traffic as the Ghana Highways Authority races to fix bridges on the stretch. According to the Authority, the bridges have failed structural integrity tests, hence, the need to renovate them. In an interview with JoyNews, the Lead Engineer with GHA, Aaron Amponsah said the deplorable state of the bridges makes them a national emergency. “The lifespan of these bridges is done.
