A journalist, Richard Dela Sky has filed a lawsuit against Parliament at the Supreme Court regarding the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The controversial bill was unanimously passed by legislators on February 28, 2024, after years of deliberation. Pressure is intensifying on President Akufo-Addo from Members of Parliament to sign the bill into law. However, the President has already indicated that he will refrain from giving his assent until the court makes a pronouncement on the case. Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual has been unsuccessful. She had intended to beat the official 119-hour record set by Alan Fisher. But in a press release posted on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 3, Chef Faila announced that her attempt did not meet some of the stringent guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR).  “A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt,” part of the statement read. MTN Ghana blocks 4.8 million users

MTN Ghana blocked 4.8 million subscribers who failed to re-register their SIMs with the Ghana card. The move is in compliance with the directive from the National Communications Authority. According to the telecom giant, its subscriber base decreased by 6.3% to 26.8 million at the end of 2023. MTN Ghana blocked 5.4 million SIMs that were not registered with the Ghana card as of May 31, 2023. Six hundred thousand SIMs of the blocked cohort were however re-registered. The NCA through the telecom operators in October 2021 embarked on a nationwide re-registration of all SIM cards using the Ghana National ID card. The exercise was completed at the end of May 2023.

Parliament unanimously passes Anti-LGBTQ+ bill

After nearly three years of deliberation, Parliament has finally passed the highly contentious Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The bill, introduced in the House years ago, was approved unanimously on Wednesday, February 28, following the completion of the third reading. Proposed amendments to the bill were rejected by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, during the session. The bill is now slated to be forwarded to President Akufo-Addo for his assent. The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, withdrew several proposed amendments to the bill on February 21.
