I told Liz Truss she was going too fast, says Kwasi Kwarteng
Former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has said he warned Liz Truss she was going too fast with her ill-fated economic plans.
In his first interview since he was sacked by the then PM, Mr Kwarteng told TalkTV he had warned her to “slow down” after September’s mini-budget.
He said he told her it was “mad” to fire him and she would only last “three or four weeks” if she did.
“Little did I know it was only going to be six days,” he added.
Mr Kwarteng was dramatically fired by Ms Truss in October, two weeks after their tax-cutting mini-budget sparked turmoil on financial markets.
After abandoning almost all of the plan in a bid to stay in power, she announced her resignation a few days later after support from Tory MPs ebbed away.

President Akufo-Addo has asked rich countries to allow heavily indebted poor African countries to swap their debts with climate interventions.
The President has been addressing the world at this year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference, (COP27) in Egypt.
Ghana is currently facing a crippling economic crisis fueled by huge debt.
The debt situation is proving to be a major stumbling block to getting an IMF deal in time.
Ghana is seeking a $3 billion bailout but the IMF has made it clear it will not lend to a country with unsustainable debt levels.

President Akufo-Addo bemoaned the fact that climate adaptation costs are currently outstripping current international public finance flows.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described climate change as a “global emergency”, and has urged the developed world to redeem a 13-year-old pledge to make available US$100 billion annually to help developing countries fight the scourge of climate change.

52.2% of Ghanaians blame COVID-19 and Russia-Ukraine war for hardship, research shows
The findings of the research show that 52.5% of Ghanaians believe that COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict have affected the Ghanaian economy
Research conducted by the UK-based Info Research and Assessment UK Ltd shows that a majority of Ghanaians believe the economic challenges facing the country have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The findings of the research show that 52.5% of Ghanaians believe that COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war are the principal factors influencing of the global economy and creating the hardship that has plagued the Ghanaian economy.
The poll was conducted between 27 October and 3 November this year, with a sample size of 254,759 people, drawn from all 16 regions in the country.
