It may take 5 weeks to restore stable internet – NCA

Ghanaians battling interruptions from their data service providers may have to wait for at least, another five weeks. This is because that is how long the National Communication Authority (NCA) estimates it may take for the faulty undersea cables to be restored, bringing back stable connections in the affected countries The NCA made this known in a press release on Saturday, March 16, 2024. This was after a meeting with the four subsea cable landing service providers (ACE, MainOne, SAT-3 and WACS). MTN Ghana apologises to subscribers for internet connectivity challenges

MTN Ghana has apologised to its subscribers for the challenges they faced in accessing data services and reaching its call center. The company assured that it is working to resolve the issue. “This is due to a disruption on our international undersea cables. Our technical teams are working with our international partners to resolve the issue”, a statement from MTN Ghana said.  “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and will keep subscribers updated”. The Ghana Chamber of telecommunications has attributed the difficulty in accessing internet connectivity today March 14, 2024, to outages on multiple submarine optic fibre cables that come into Ghana. According to the Chamber, some of the cables are down while others are delivering limited capacity. It said the development is impacting internet, data, and Voice Over IP services of the mobile network operators and data service providers to varying degrees. “As a result, customers and subscribers are currently experiencing service challenges,” a statement issued by the chamber said. Undersea fibre optic disruptions affect internet service in Ghana

There is a nationwide internet disruption in Ghana and according to the National Communications Authority (NCA), it is due to outages on multiple submarine fibre optic cables that connect Ghana. The NCA in a press statement explained that multiple undersea cable disruptions have affected Mobile and Fixed Data services nationwide in Ghana. It said the disruptions affecting the multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic have occurred in Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire.
