France has assumed the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of April, with Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont leading the governing body.
Bonnafont outlined the council’s agenda, which includes addressing ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, Africa, and Haiti. He emphasized that one of the most pressing issues for the Security Council is whether discussions on a ceasefire in Ukraine will yield tangible results.
During its tenure, the Security Council is expected to hold its quarterly open debate on the Middle East and Palestinian statehood. Bonnafont described the situation as “very concerning,” noting that the Council will also deliberate on broader regional conflicts, including those in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
France’s presidency of the Security Council comes at a crucial time, as global tensions rise and diplomatic efforts intensify to address these pressing international issues.
