The Shai-Osudoku District Director of Education, Ms. Harriet Lomotey has called on all stakeholders to put their hands on deck to achieve the ‘’Zero Waste Agenda’’ in the country.

She said it was imperative to deliberate on achieving sustainable waste management through recycling all forms of waste thus ridding the country of filth.

Speaking at an event to launch the ‘’Zero Waste Agenda’’ at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region, Ms. Lomotey indicated that there’s the need for Ghanaians to embrace the “ZERO WASTE” lifestyle which includes the 3Rs that is reduce, reuse, and recycle.

‘’As we move out and come in, we should be intentional in reducing the number of material products we throw away and we should rather incorporate one project into another’’, she asserted.

She disclosed that the Shai-Osudoku district has adopted the 3Rs approach as it has used plastic bottles to creatively mold a bed and other items like waste bins, lamp holders, and others, serving as creative Art designs and has become a visual art project that will support the new education reforms.

‘’As a District, we acknowledge that the problem the world is facing with regards to how we can significantly manage our environment is to ensure that we reduce this economic crisis to the lowest level called Zero’’, she posited.

Ms. Lomotey believes achieving the ‘’Zero Waste’’ Agenda would be successful if strategies, resources, and all stakeholders come on board.

The National Coordinator for Zoomlion Foundation, Thomas Korley enumerated the nature of the program, stating that it is an awareness creation to draw the public attention to the value that can be derived from proper waste management.

He said the Zoomlion company has recycling and composting plants across the 16 regions of Ghana where residents are encouraged to send their segregated plastic waste in exchange for money.

According to him, the company is partnering with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to disseminate the information to various schools where children will generate ideas with innovations for proper waste management that will aid in achieving the agenda.

He was of the view that children have the potential to develop new innovative ideas that the company has not yet tapped.

The Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ghana Education Service (GES) are embarking on the ‘’Zero Waste Agenda’’ to ensure every waste is properly utilized.

The launch took place at Dodowa Guggisberg Hall on the theme, Achieving Sustainable Zero Waste: A District Agenda for Facilitators and Learners.
