Bawumia assures churches will not be taxed

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his tour in the Oti Region, met with the clergy and assured them that churches would remain exempt from taxation. He emphasized the significant contributions churches have made to the country’s development.

There has been considerable debate recently about whether churches should be taxed. This issue has sparked widespread discussion across the nation.

During a tour in the Volta Region and a meeting with the clergy in the Oti Region, Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured the church leaders that they would be exempt from taxation. He acknowledged the crucial role that churches play in the lives of Ghanaians and their involvement in various developmental projects.

Dr. Bawumia also mentioned that the government would provide incentives for the church, similar to other development initiatives. He highlighted that through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), groundwork has commenced for an accommodation facility at Trinity College.

The meeting with the clergy included discussions between the clergy members and the Vice President. The event was attended by several NPP leaders, including Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and heads of various denominational bodies.
