The Deputy Executive Director for Christians Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. James Duah has expressed worry about the rapid state at which nurses and midwives are departing the country in search for a better working condition, stating that if it continues, may inadvertently complicate maternal mortality. The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued weather warnings amid the heavy rainfall that struck the southern part of the country. It indicated that, the rain in Ghana is a result of a rainstorm observed over southern Togo. It is expected to drift westward to affect areas within southern Ghana with thunderstorms or rain of varying intensities, as well as induce cloudiness. Moderate to strong winds are likely to accompany the rainstorm over some areas. A downpour in parts of Accra on Monday morning, May 6, left in its wake the usual flooding on some streets in the capital. The rain, accompanied by strong winds, brought down two billboards on the Korle Bu road. One of the billboards mounted at the Korle Bu Traffic Light intersection fell on the part of the road from the Bukom Boxing Arena towards the Lavender Hill at Korle Bu. Another billboard also fell on the same stretch. At the time of filling this report, Police officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department were at the scene to clear the road to aid the movement of vehicles. Falling trees crashed several vehicles, including a motor rider who is in critical condition at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital. The unusual cause of these series of accidents were falling trees around the airport area as a result of the heavy downpours in the early hours of Monday, May 6, 2024. Ghana has been identified as the 4th most stressful country for workers in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to the 2023 Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report. According to the survey by Gallup, Ghanaian workers experience stress on a daily basis. Chad tops the list with workers experiencing the most stress daily. It is followed by Uganda in second place, Tanzania in third, Sierra Leone in fifth, Senegal in sixth, Nigeria in seventh, Guinea in eighth, Togo in ninth, and Cameroon in tenth. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 46% of workers experience daily stress. Among female workers, 48% are stressed daily, while 45% of male workers also experience daily stress.
