An innovative animation serial that identifies gaps in the Covid-19 communication campaign was launched last Wednesday to educate children on the protocols and protection from the pandemic among other social issues. The animation aims to educate children on the importance of hand washing, social distancing, the wearing of face masks and other safety protocols of the pandemic to complement the government's effort in the dissemination of information to the public especially children. Known as Kofi Kommando and Squad (KKS), it would touch on health, social, behavioural change, climate change, water and sanitation that is culturally sensitive to educate young children. 100,000 people targeted for 2022’s Girls-in-ICT training in cyber security and data privacy

The Deputy Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Ama Pomaa Boateng has opened the training of 2022 Girls in ICT for SHS on Cyber Security and Data Privacy targeted at a 100,000 girls across seven regions. The beneficiary regions are Northern, Bono East, Bono Ahafo, Volta and Oti. The programme is organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education; Ghana Education Service (GES) and Huawei Technologies, Ghana. ‘Faeces in sachet water’ research finding inaccurate – FDA

Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has debunked claims that sachet water on the market is contaminated with faecal matter. The Authority said the outcome of its regular surveillance of sachet water producers is not in conformity with observations by the Ghana Statistical Service. A study by the Ghana Statistical Service revealed that most sachet water on the market was contaminated with faecal matter. The multiple indicator cluster survey conducted in 2017 revealed 34.1% of households in Ghana which relied on sachet water as a drinking water source had an appreciable amount of Esherichia coli, a contamination indicator.   In a response to media reports on the poor quality and safety of sachet water, the FDA assured of regular inspection of manufacturing facilities...

National 200m record holder, Joseph Paul Amoah, has won bronze medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The sprinter raced in the final of the 200m event on Saturday, August 6, and finished with a time of 20.49s. Joe Paul’s success on Saturday night sees him win Ghana’s first medal in the track event having seen Benjamin Azamati miss out on a medal in the 100m final. Ghana’s 4x100m relay team was also disqualified earlier on Saturday after the coaches did not inform race officials one hour to the race, as the rules require when replacing an athlete. His podium finish sees him become the first African to win a medal in the 200m event since 2006 while he also becomes the first Ghanaian to win a medal in 200m since George Daniels in 1974.

Deborah Acquah, who holds the national record in the long jump, won the bronze medal in her event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Sunday, August 7. Acquah came in third after a leap of 6.94m in the final, only behind Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl (silver) and Nigeria’s Ese Brume, who recorded a leap of 6.99m to win gold. She missed out on the final of the women’s long jump event at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon but booked a final spot in Birmingham despite her late arrival. The Ghanaian, who received her UK visa, only 48 hours before her scheduled event at the games on Friday, topped her qualifying group with a leap of 6.85m. Ashanti GES initiates Reading Festival to promote reading culture among pupils

The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has organized a Reading Festival to help improve the culture of reading among pupils at the early stages of their education. With the support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the intervention by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education is expected to reach over 5,000 schools across the country. The Reading Festival involved learners from basic one to basic three from all 43 districts of the Ashanti Region.
