Police and Presidency perceived as Ghana’s most corrupt institutions – Afrobarometer

The Ghana Police Service and the Office of the President are perceived as the country’s most corrupt institutions. This is the outcome of an Afrobarometer study undertaken by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). The research found that the Police’s score of 65% placed it at the top of the chain while the Presidency followed in second position with 55%. The report also placed members of Parliament as the third group of people in the pack with a score of 54%. Per the assessment, positive ratings of the President’s performance declined by 31 percentage points between 2019 and 2022, from 61% to 30%. Armed Forces, religious leaders most trusted institutions – Afrobarometer

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and religious leaders have been ranked as the most trusted institutions in the country in the year 2022. This ranking was contained in the latest Afrobarometer study conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) which bordered on democratic governance, trust in institutions and corruption. The CDD-Ghana survey revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces topped the chart with a total score of 67 percent. Followed by religious leaders with 49 percent. According to the report, traditional leaders are the third most trusted public institution with a percentage of 27. The European Union is seeking additional gas supplies from Nigeria as the bloc prepares for potential Russian supply cuts, Matthew Baldwin, deputy director general of the European Commission’s energy department, said on Saturday. Baldwin was speaking in Nigeria where he held meetings with officials from Africa’s largest oil producer this week. He was told that Nigeria was improving security in the Niger Delta and planned to re-open the Trans Niger pipeline after August, which would yield more gas exports to Europe. The national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms have returned to the country after winning a total of 45 medals to finish third at the 11th Africa Armwrestling Championships which ended last Friday (July 22, 2022) in Lagos.
