The Tarkwa Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Nyanasah Hayfron, has underscored the saving nature of Jesus Christ, describing Him as the Good Shepherd whose mission is to give life and rescue humanity from destruction.
He said this during a sermon on Day Two of the Area’s 2026 Easter Convention held at the Wassa Benso Central Assembly in the Wassa Benso District on Good Friday.
Preaching from John 10:10-11, Apostle Dr Hayfron explained that Jesus Christ came to offer abundant life, unlike the devil who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. He noted that Christ’s role as the Good Shepherd is evident in His continuous pursuit to save mankind.
Touching on the significance of the Last Supper, the Apostle indicated that Jesus intentionally instituted it to ensure that believers continually remember Him, particularly the sacrifice of the cross and the salvation it brings, rather than mere recognition.
He further stated that the remembrance of Christ’s death and resurrection must guide the lives of believers, helping them to resist sinful desires and remain focused on successfully completing their Christian journey.
Apostle Dr Hayfron also highlighted the role of free will, stressing that God has given humanity the ability to choose their master. He cautioned that the devil often introduces doubt about God’s goodness and provides misleading alternatives that ultimately lead to destruction, referencing the account of Adam and Eve.
Describing sin as dangerous and consequential, he likened it to crossing a railway line in the face of an oncoming high-speed train despite clear warnings. He reiterated that sin leads to death, explaining that anyone who engages in sin becomes subject to its consequences.
According to him, although mankind deserved death after the fall, God demonstrated His love by offering His sinless Son as a sacrifice for humanity. He explained that while animal sacrifices in the Old Testament provided temporary cleansing, they could not fully atone for sin, making the death of Christ essential for complete redemption.
He added that anyone who acknowledges and repents of their sins receives salvation through Christ, noting that His death and resurrection have transitioned believers from slavery to sin into a life of victory and the promise of eternal life.
Apostle Dr Hayfron affirmed that salvation is available to all, but warned that those who reject it risk eternal separation from God.
The Day Two service of the Easter Convention drew congregants into a moment of deep reflection on the significance of the cross and the call to live under the guidance of Christ, the Good Shepherd.
