The Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church has launched its 175th anniversary, with a call on members to sacrifice for and commit their resources to ministry. 422,883 Candidates to write 2022 WASSCE for School Candidates

A total of 422,883 final-year senior high school (SHS) students across the country will write this year's West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates. The examination, which begins with the practical session today, August 1, will involve 203,753 males and 219,130 females. The examination will be written in 977 schools, comprising 673 public schools and 304 private schools. It will be manned by 775 supervisors. According to statistics from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) made available to the Daily Graphic, the Ashanti Region will present the highest number of candidates; 104,334. The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has urged the government to decentralise the procurement and management of food supplies to senior high schools (SHSs) across the country to avert the recurrent food shortages in schools. According to the committee, the prevailing system of distributing the foodstuffs was also expensive, and so allowing schools to purchase the food items from the local market could forestall food shortages in the institutions and also help sustain the Free SHS policy. “If the government really wants the Free SHS policy to survive, it should decentralise the procurement of food supplies to SHSs and ensure timely release of funds,” the committee added.
