Ghana Navy receives two boundary class-ships from U.S
The Ghana Navy has received two high-speed boundary class ships from the United States of America to boost its maritime law enforcement mandate.
The two high-speed boundary class ships arrived at the Takoradi Harbor onboard the Ocean Giant vessel, and each came with a boat and has a maximum speed of 25 knots.
Speaking to Citi News at the delivery of the two class ships at the Takoradi Harbor, the Flag-Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, Commodore Emmanuel Kwafo, said the vessels’ arrival will add to their capacity to fight against armed robbery at sea, piracy, illegal bunkering, drug and human trafficking, and protection of Ghana’s fisheries resources.

Jospong Group holds maiden ‘olympics’ for staff
The Jospong Group of Companies held its maiden sporting event for its staff, dubbed the “Jospong Olympics.” The event was part of activities to mark the Jospong Employees Month, which had the theme “Our people, our heroes.” It was aimed at creating a bond among the staff in all of the Group’s over 60 subsidiaries.
The Managing Director of Zoomlion Private Services, Edwin Amoako, explained in an interview that the purpose of the games was for the employees to meet, bond, and share common interests and understanding, while also providing an opportunity for the staff to have fun and stay fit.

Report cases of abuse – Gender minister urges women and girls
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu has advised women and individuals who are victims of abuse to be bold to report the cases to the police.
According to her, there are laws in place to fight for the right and privileges of citizens, however, the laws can only work if the cases are reported.
“The law is deterrent, we have to report to the police. There is a culture of not reporting. If we report, then the police will investigate and the law will take its course.
“The laws are there to fight for you if you report cases. I will encourage everybody, no matter what, to report to the police when it happens,”she said on June 14.

Doctor warns mothers to stop using camphor in babies’ clothes
A paediatrician at the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani, Dr. Bright Asiamah, has called on mothers to stop using naphthalene balls in their babies’ clothes.
He said that naphthalene balls can cause jaundice, a condition that causes the skin and eyes to turn yellow.
Newborn jaundice is a common condition that occurs in about 60% of babies. It is caused by a buildup of bilirubin, a yellow pigment, in the blood. Bilirubin is produced when red blood cells break down. In newborns, the liver is not fully developed and cannot remove bilirubin from the blood as quickly as it should.
Naphthalene balls are made of a substance called camphor. Camphor can break down red blood cells, which can lead to jaundice.

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) held its 11th joint graduation ceremony for its students on June 8, 2023.
In total, 71 Master’s degree students and 3 PhD students from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Nigeria graduated.

Pernod Ricard Ghana’s planting of 10,000 trees begins at Moree
In line with its efforts to preserve the environment and ecosystems, Pernod Ricard Ghana, a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard group, a leading producer of wines and spirits, in collaboration with Green Republic Project has targeted to plant 10,000 trees over the month of June.
The project was launched in Moree, in the Central Region, on June 5th, to mark World Environmental Day. To begin the tree-planting project, Pernod Ricard Ghana planted 1500 trees in Moree out of the 10,000 targeted trees.
