World Bank supports Ghana to modernize, diversify its tree crops sector
The Government of Ghana has received approval for $200 million financing from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Ghana Tree Crop Diversification Project (TCDP) to diversify and grow its economy through modernizing agriculture to accelerate productivity, resilience, and industrialization.
This financing will directly benefit 12,800 cocoa farmers and 39,975 cashew, coconut, and rubber farmers, and their households. An additional 20,000 jobs are expected to be created in downstream value addition by mobilizing private capital. Nearly 40 percent of on-farm beneficiaries will be women.

RTSS Malaria Vaccine helps reduce malaria cases and deaths in children under five – Dr Paul Boateng
Dr Paul Boateng, Case Management Focal Person, National Malaria Elimination Programme, says the introduction of the RTSS malaria vaccine has contributed to a sharp decline in malaria morbidities and mortalities among children aged six to 59 months in the last three years.
He told the Ghana News Agency that the vaccine together with other interventions targeted at children under five, such as the use of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) indoor residual spraying among others has helped reduce malaria prevalence from 14.1 per cent in 2019 to 8.6 in 2022.
Findings from the 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) indicates that malaria prevalence in children aged six to 59 months is 8.6 per cent according to microscopy results.

A Minister of State at the Office of the President, Dr Freda Prempeh, has urged the youth desiring to pursue a life career in the military and other security services to first obtain degrees or related professional certificates.
She said the need for them to remain patient and concentrate on their studies as a matter of priority because, “it is better to wait and obtain professional certificates before you apply than to join the forces without certificate.”

GFA condemns assault on female referee in Northern Region
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the Northern Region has condemned Napari Suheru for assaulting a female referee during a Division 1B football match near the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on June 17, 2023.
The Northern Regional Football Association Secretary, Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim described Mr. Suheru as a lovely person who is well-known in the footballing fraternity in the region and so it came as a surprise when news of his actions broke out.

Teachers failing licensure exams a good omen – EduWatch
The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has expressed satisfaction with the failure of the 6,451 candidates who took the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination in May.
According to Mr Asare, it is the highest since the inception of the exam, which is designed to ensure qualified teachers in Ghanaian classrooms.

Black Stars legend, Asamoah Gyan has announced his retirement from active football.
Gyan, who is 37 years old, made the announcement in a press statement on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
“It is time…that voice has been clear in my ears, and I have succumbed to it, IT IS TIME. IT IS TIME TO HANG THE JERSEY AND BOOTS IN GLORY as I retire officially from active football”.
