The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is backing calls for President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency in areas ravaged by floods from the spillage of the Akosombo Dam. In a crucial session at the United Nations Security Council on Monday night, Ghana abstained from voting on a resolution proposed by Russia concerning the conflict in Gaza. The resolution, put forth by Russia, called for a humanitarian ceasefire, the release of hostages, aid access, and the safe evacuation of civilians in the war-torn region. The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has asked the government to pay them their 2023/23 Book and Research Allowance (BRA) by Saturday, October 21.  It said if this warning is not heeded, they will embark on an industrial action.  UTAG issued the warning in its communiqué released on Monday, October 16, signed by its National President, Professor Mamudu A. Houses, properties still submerged in water 5 months after flood in Agbozume

Residents in some flood-affected communities in Agbozume in the Ketu South Municipality, of the Volta Region, are still counting their losses after they were rendered homeless by floods. According to the residents, the flood started in May this year, destroying many properties and rendering families homeless, leaving them distressed and frustrated. Some of the communities affected are Nogokpo, Sonuto, Babanawokope, Kpedzakope, and Ativuta among others. They have been blocked and completely cut off from the main Agbozume township.
