Torrential rains over the weekend destroyed houses and displaced hundreds of people at Duta and Agbawoeme, two adjoining communities near Diamond Cement at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region.  The rains caused severe flooding of several homes and destroyed property running into tens of thousands of Ghana cedis,   As a result, many of the residents in the affected communities have had to relocate from the area to put up with their family members in neighbouring communities.  Mrs Sylvia Awuye Akpavor, a media practitioner, who lives close to the affected communities, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the situation was alarming as it had really affected the daily life of the residents.  “I have personally visited the Duta and ...

Movement of motorists was heavily impeded Thursday morning at the Kpone Barrier portion of the main Tema-Aflao N1 road due to flood waters following an early morning downpour. Some motorists and their passengers complained of staying in gridlocks between two and five hours before making their way out of the situation. Joy News’ Carlos Calony who toured the affected areas said the floods blocked the road in front of the Bel-Acqua Bottling Company where commuters virtually sailed through running waters. The Ga Traditional Council Wednesday reiterated that the use of Public Address Systems by churches and other institutions outlawed as part of the ban on drumming and noisemaking remains in force. The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II said at no point had the members of the Ga Traditional Council endorsed the usage of microphones and public address systems by the clergy or any other at reduced volume in auditoriums and other institutions. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has released a list of three persons wanted in connection with various criminal activities. The list, which was shared on Twitter, contains the details of Ezekiel Mensah Otoo, Nicholas Gyekye, and Derrick Obeng, a.k.a Chiling. Ezekiel is wanted for alleged offences of stealing and involvement in SIM swap fraud. In the case of Nicholas Gyekye, the EOCO has not stated what crime he is alleged to have committed but has urged members of the public to provide information on the said Nicholas Gyekye through a phone number. Following continuous reduction in prices of petroleum products in recent weeks, transport operators have agreed to review fares downwards effective Wednesday, May 17, 2023. The decision was announced in a statement released by the Road Transport Operators on Monday, May 15.
