A New York City medical school will offer students free tuition following a $1bn donation from the 93-year-old widow of a major Wall Street investor.
The gift to Albert Einstein College of Medicine came from Dr Ruth Gottesman, a former professor at the Bronx school.
It is one of the largest ever donations made to a US school and is the largest ever made to a medical school.
The Bronx, New York City's poorest borough, is ranked as the unhealthiest of New York's 62 counties.
In a statement, university dean Dr Yaron Yomer said that the "transformational" gift "radically revolutionises our ability to continue attracting students who are committed to our mission, not just those who can afford it".

The late Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy was born at Osramane-Dadease on September 22, 1958, to Opanin Kwaku Kumah and Obaapanin Adwoa Tiwaah from Osramane- Dadease, near Kete-Krachi. Both of his parents have gone to be with the Lord. He was the fifth of the ten children of his parents. His father, who was affectionately called Agya Aku, officially named him after his elder brother, Kwabena Ntumy.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has eulogised the late former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy, describing him as an outstanding servant of the Church.
In a tribute read on his behalf by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the President said, Apostle Ntumy dedicated his life to the cause of God’s work at the peril of his life and contributed immensely to the country’s democratic growth.
“He was well known for his honesty, integrity and discipline. He was an outstanding servant of the Church, the Ghanaian people, and the public interest,” the President said.

Officials at the Guinness World Records have disclosed why Afua Asantewaa was unsuccessful with her singathon attempt.
They told Joy FM via mail that Afua could make the mark because she broke some of their rules.
“Afua Asantewaa’s singathon attempt was not successful due to due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met.
