The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has called on Christians across Ghana to rise above political affiliations and commit to prayer and fasting for national transformation.
Speaking on Day 2 of the Swedru Area Officers’ Retreat at the Agona Nyakrom Central and English Assembly Auditorium, Apostle Obuobi emphasized that Ghana’s challenges—including corruption, moral decline, and rising anti-Christian sentiments—require spiritual intervention rather than political debates alone.
Delivering a sermon on the theme, “Transforming Society Through the Power of Prayer and Fasting,” he explained that societal transformation is “a profound, fundamental, and positive change in the structures, culture, and moral fabric of a community,” which begins in believers’ prayer closets.
“The transformation of the world that we desire begins with prayer fueled by the sacrificial act of fasting,” he stressed, urging Christians to intercede for the nation regardless of political leanings. Quoting 1 Timothy 2:1-2, he reminded believers of their biblical mandate to pray for leaders to ensure peace and godliness in the country.
Apostle Obuobi drew from Scripture examples of national change through fasting and prayer, including the repentance of Nineveh (Jonah 3), Esther’s three-day fast for the Jewish people, Ezra’s fast for divine protection, and the early church in Antioch. He described prayer and fasting as spiritual weapons capable of tearing down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4), emphasizing the need for fervency and persistence (James 5:16).
He highlighted that historical figures who impacted their world, including Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, and the forebears of The Church of Pentecost, were deeply rooted in disciplined fasting and prayer.
The General Secretary urged officers and members to embrace their role as intercessors for Ghana, stressing that national healing and moral renewal require spiritual responsibility.
“Our loyalty to Christ must transcend every political affiliation,” he concluded, calling on believers to unite in prayer and fasting for a transformed Ghana.
The Swedru Area Officers’ Retreat continues with sessions aimed at equipping church leaders for effective ministry and societal impact.
