The Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost today [May 1, 2026] held a Foundation Stone Laying Service for the redesigned Agormanya Central Auditorium and Area Offices project.
The event was chaired by the General Secretary of the church, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, and brought together ministers, officers, members of the church, traditional authorities, and invited guests.
Also present were Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency and Deputy Minister for the Interior, and Mrs. Juliana Korkor Obuobi, wife of the General Secretary.
The project marks a major milestone in the church’s efforts to provide a modern worship and administrative facility to serve the growing needs of the Agormanya Area.
The Agormanya Central Church building has served as the seat of the Area since the creation of the Agormanya Area out of the Koforidua Area in 2005. The old auditorium, which was dedicated on January 31, 1993, had a seating capacity of about 350 to 400 worshippers and hosted district, zonal, and area-level services and meetings.
However, with the steady growth of the church and the expansion of ministry activities within the Area, the facility gradually became inadequate. During major services and programmes, many worshippers had to be accommodated outside the building.
The need for a permanent Area Office space also became increasingly necessary, as the Area had operated from rented facilities since its creation in 2005. Although the Area Office later operated temporarily from part of the Agormanya District Mission House, leadership considered the need for a permanent and more suitable administrative facility.
In response, the Area Executive Committee, led by the Area Head, Apostle Dr. Samuel Gakpetor, conceived a vision in 2022 to redesign the existing structure into a modern multi-purpose complex that would serve both spiritual and administrative purposes.
The redesigned facility will include a 1,500-seat main auditorium, conference and meeting rooms, training facilities, area and district administrative offices, children’s ministry classrooms, youth ministry facilities, nursing mothers’ rooms, a baptistery, washrooms, storage areas, and a basement car park.
Approval for the project was granted by the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, on May 17, 2022.
Following a sod-cutting ceremony held in July 2023, demolition of the old structure began in December 2023, with construction works officially commencing in February 2024.
The project is being executed in phases under the supervision of a 13-member Project Implementation Team made up of ministers and professionals within the church.
Currently, the basement level has been completed, structural works on the ground floor auditorium have also been completed, while works on the upper floors are ongoing.
The project, which has so far cost over GH¢3.6 million, has been funded through grants, Area Week contributions, support from various church bodies, districts, assemblies, and voluntary contributions from individuals and well-wishers.
An estimated GH¢3 million is still required to complete the project, with leadership targeting the mobilisation of GH¢1 million by August 2026 to complete roofing and structural works.
