The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is intensifying its fight against cocoa smuggling with a major intervention in the Volta Region. Board Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo announced a coordinated effort involving the Ghana Police Service, Marine Police, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and the National Intelligence Unit.
The campaign targets smuggling hotspots, beginning with the Volta Region, to restore control over cocoa flows and preserve the country’s vital agricultural exports. Dr. Ampofo emphasised that smuggled cocoa distorts trade figures, deprives farmers of fair prices, and affects national planning. The illegal trade undermines investments in the sector and threatens the sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa legacy.
