The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the wake of Ghana’s Parliament passing the anti-gay bill. Parliament unanimously passes Anti-LGBTQ+ bill

After nearly three years of deliberation, Parliament has finally passed the highly contentious Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The bill, introduced in the House years ago, was approved unanimously on Wednesday, February 28, following the completion of the third reading. Proposed amendments to the bill were rejected by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, during the session. The bill is now slated to be forwarded to President Akufo-Addo for his assent. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has given the clearest indication that the House will pass the controversial Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill before the 2024 election. The Church of Pentecost has made a strong statement of support towards the legislation of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill when it presented six memos along with 15,000 signatories to parliament today. The presentation, which was made along with other Christian groups and church denominations, took place at the office of the committee of constitutional, legal, and parliamentary affairs.
