Telecoms Chamber attributes internet connectivity challenges to outages on multiple submarine optic fibre cables

The Ghana Chamber of telecommunications has attributed the difficulty in accessing internet connectivity today March 14, 2024, to outages on multiple submarine optic fibre cables that come into Ghana. According to the Chamber, some of the cables are down while others are delivering limited capacity. It said the development is impacting internet, data, and Voice Over IP services of the mobile network operators and data service providers to varying degrees. “As a result, customers and subscribers are currently experiencing service challenges,” a statement issued by the chamber said. SIM Card registration: Telcos start blocking subscribers in phases

Telecommunications companies (Telcos) in the country have begun blocking SIM cards of mobile subscribers yet to register their SIM cards. The exercise is in compliance with a recent directive from the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization. The telcos are AirtelTigo, MTN, and Vodafone. “On November 11, 2022 the Ministry announced some measures to be implemented by Operators.
