African Games 2023: Gold medalists to get $3000 as Ghana announces reward package for athletes

Ghana's Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced reward packages for athletes who win medals at the 2023 African Games in Accra. According to the ministry, winning a gold medal will attract a prize of $3000, $2000 for winning a silver medal, while bronze medals will attract a cash prize of $1000. The figures were revealed at a press briefing in Accra on Sunday evening, the eve of the start of the athletics leg of the games. Athletes will also receive Ghs 1000 per diem for each of the 14 days they will be in camp during the games. Ghana has already won 46 medals after 10 days of competition, with 9 gold, 22 silver, 15 bronze. The University of Ghana Stadium is one of the major venues that will be used during the 13th edition of the African Games. The facility was officially commissioned by Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia in time ahead of the start of the Games to be staged in Ghana this month. Handed to Consar Limited, the University of Ghana Stadium has a standard football pitch, an 8-lane running track, an 8-lane, warm-up track, an athletic oval, a media centre, a VVIP Lounge, offices and an upgraded rugby pitch.
