King Faisal should withdraw injunction application from court – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe

Ghana News, Sports News
Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamkloe, has called on Division One League side King Faisal to take their injunction against the 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Elective Congress from court. Last Monday, King Faisal and its lawyer filed the motion in the Accra High Court. They contend that the GFA’s statutes prohibit a legal Congress from convening to elect the GFA President until the new members or representatives of the Executive Committee have been duly elected. As a result, they are asking the court to prevent the GFA from holding the presidential election on September 27 until the necessary elections for delegates from the National League Clubs, Regional Football Associations, and other constituent bodies are completed. The GFA also announced it...

Army officers say they are taking power in Gabon

Africa News, Headlines Today
Army officers have appeared on national television in Gabon to say they have taken power. They said they were annulling the results of Saturday’s election, in which President Ali Bongo was declared the winner. The electoral commission said Mr Bongo had won just under two-thirds of the votes in an election the opposition argued was fraudulent. His overthrow would end his family’s 53-year hold on power in Gabon. Twelve soldiers appeared on television announcing they were cancelling the results of the election and dissolving “all the institutions of the republic”. One of the soldiers said on TV channel Gabon 24: “We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime.” This, he added, was down to “irresponsible, unpredictable governance resulting in a contin...

Google tests watermark to identify AI images

Google tests watermark to identify AI images

International, Science & Technology
Google is trialling a digital watermark to spot images made by artificial intelligence (AI) in a bid to fight disinformation. Developed by DeepMind, Google’s AI arm, SynthID will identify images generated by machines. It works by embedding changes to individual pixels in images so watermarks are invisible to the human eye but detectable by computers. But DeepMind said it is not “foolproof against extreme image manipulation”. As the technology evolves, it is becoming increasingly more complex to tell the difference between real images and artificially-generated ones – as BBC Bitesize’s AI or Real quiz shows. AI image generators have become mainstream, with the popular tool Midjourney boasting more than 14.5m users. They allow people to create images in seconds by...

Empowering Children with Special Needs through Coding: Teach for Tomorrow’s inclusive initiative.

Africa News, Education, Ghana News
In a world increasingly shaped by technology, the ability to code has emerged as a powerful tool, offering access to innovation and opportunity. However, this skill remains largely out of reach for children with special needs who often encounter unique challenges within traditional educational settings across schools in Ghana. Recognizing the untapped potential within these young minds, the Teach for Tomorrow Foundation, led by Francis Ahene-Affoh, Founder and Director of the NGO, has taken a monumental step towards inclusivity. The foundation has introduced specialized coding training as part of this year’s Africa Code Week programme, aimed at children with special needs in Ghana. This pioneering programme recently converged at the Dzorwulu Special School, where teachers and y...

Stop the display of foodstuffs on the floor – FDA tells traders

Ghana News, Health & Wellbeing
Traders at the Ho Central Market have been asked to get their wares off the ground to promote the standards required in food safety.  The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) gave the directive during a durbar in the Volta Region, held at the frontage of the market, to mark the World Food Safety Day, where stakeholders raised concerns over how food was displayed on the ground for sale.  Streets, lanes and alleys of the large market are taken over by hundreds of sellers, the majority of whom spread their wares on the bare floor, while pedestrians avoid trampling on them, especially on market days, which come every four days.  Mr Gorden Akurugu, the Volta Regional Head, FDA, said the practice subjected the food to extreme contamination and should be avoided.  The FD...
