Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Hollywood actor Idris Elba, recently had a meeting to discuss ways to expand the creative arts economy in Africa. In a post on Facebook, Dr Bawumia indicated that their conversation included ways to finance Ghana’s creative arts industry and devising strategies to integrate it into the worldwide financial ecosystem. Korle-Bu Renal Unit may shut down due to indebtedness

The renal dialysis unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is warning of a possible shutdown due to the facility's inability to raise money to purchase consumables for service delivery.  According to the Head of the Unit, Prof. Vincent Boiman, with every dialysis section, the unit loses GH₵380 which is accumulating as debt. Prof. Boiman says the situation is now affecting service delivery and may lead to the shutting down of the unit. Ghana has dropped six places in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their embarrassing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars, who finished the 2023 year in the 61st position, have now dropped to 67th on the log globally while also falling further down on the African continent. Ghana now occupies the 14th position on the CAF rankings with Cape Verde, South Africa, DR Congo all moving above the four-time AFCON winners. Inflation hits 23.5% as it resumes upward trajectory

Inflation went up marginally in January 2024 to 23.5% as it resumed the upward trajectory, data from the Ghana Statistical Service has revealed. This follows five consecutive months of decline. Inflation stood at 23.2% in December 2023. According to the GSS, the increase in year-on-year inflation was influenced by a sharp surge in non-food items including housing, clothing and transport. Non-food inflation increased to 20.5% in January 2024 from 18.7% in December 2023. Food inflation, however, continued to decline. It fell marginally to 27.1% in January 2024 from 28.7% in December 2023. For the month-on-month inflation, food inflation stood at 1.6%, whilst non-food inflation was estimated at 2.4%.
