February 14, a day known worldwide as Valentine’s Day, or Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is a day for lovers, family, and friends to celebrate love. Many on this day anticipate spending quality time with their loved ones by going on romantic dates, gifting them special tokens of love, asking out their potential love interest, and many more. It originated as a Western Christian feast day honouring one or two early saints named Valentinus, and recognised as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world. It is characterised by the wearing of red clothes by celebrants. Ghana, over the years, celebrated the day as Valantine’s Day, however in 2005, the country instituted the National...

Demand pressures for dollar to weigh on cedi this week; one dollar equals GH¢12.80

Ghana News, News In Brief
The persistent demand pressures for the dollar would continue to weigh negatively on the cedi's performance this week. This follows a marginal depreciation of the local currency last week, taking its year-to-date loss to about 3.0%. The elevated demand continued to inhibit the cedi's performance last week, causing it to weaken across the major trading currencies. The Central Bank supported the market with $3 million but this was not substantial enough to keep the local currency afloat as it shed 0.60% week-on-week against the American greenback to close the week at GH¢12.80 in the retail market. The local unit also depreciated 0.16% versus the pound but gained 0.19% against the euro. Global creditors and rating agencies convened a meeting last week to discuss the impact of r...

I was called into full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost when Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy assumed the chairmanship position of the Church and was posted to Kete Krachi, his hometown. Each time he returned home, as the then District Overseer, I became his personal assistant, running errands for him and looking after his welfare. I am truly distraught to hear about the passing of my bosom kinsman, Apostle Dr. M. K. Ntumy. It is with a somber heart and a reflective mind that I remember the profound legacy he leaves behind. His life was a testament to the values of selflessness, humility, and kindness that he embodied every day. Dr. Ntumy was a close collaborator to all, though a chairman. His visits to Krachi were not merely official trips; they were homecomings filled with...
