Despite calls for a reconsideration of the reopening date, first-year senior high school students nationwide are expected to commence reporting to their respective schools today. In defiance of the pleas from parents and other stakeholders to extend the reporting date, citing various reasons, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has maintained the December 4 date. In response to these concerns, Parliament has urged the Minister of Education to contemplate rescheduling the reopening date to the first week of January instead of Monday, December 4. The 2023 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) into Senior High Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVET) has gone live today. In a press statement from the Ministry of Education, out of the total number of 598,839 results received from WAEC, 585,797 candidates qualified to be placed. "A total of 477,772 (81.56%) have automatically been placed in one of their choices," the ministry stated This, according to the ministry, is a significant improvement compared to last year. The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has asked the government to pay them their 2023/23 Book and Research Allowance (BRA) by Saturday, October 21.  It said if this warning is not heeded, they will embark on an industrial action.  UTAG issued the warning in its communiqué released on Monday, October 16, signed by its National President, Professor Mamudu A.
