The Church of Pentecost bade a final farewell to the late Pastor Eric Kumi, a gallant solder of the cross, during a burial and memorial service held in his honour at the Sampson Okyere Memorial Temple in the Odorkor Area of the church on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

The late Pastor Kumi, aged 51, was called to glory on December 10, 2024, after a short illness. He is survived by his beloved wife and three children.

He was a devoted servant of God who significantly impacted many lives throughout his ministry over the past 13 years. He served various districts within The Church of Pentecost, including Banso District, Sege District, and Gbawe Topbase District, until his demise.

Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, the National Coordinator for the Home and Urban Missions, delivered the sermon centered on the theme, ‘Blessed are the dead in Christ,’ drawing inspiration from Revelation 14:13.

In his sermon, Apostle Kwafo acknowledged the sorrow felt by many due to Pastor Kumi’s passing. He emphasised that while death may appear painful from a human perspective, it is a profound blessing God uses to demonstrate His power over death.

He referenced 1 Corinthians 15:42-45 and 52-55 to illustrate that when Christians die, they are not buried but rather ‘planted’ to rise in glory and strength in the afterlife.

Apostle Kwafo explained the blessedness of those who die in Christ by highlighting several key aspects.

According to him, upon death, believers enter into eternal communion with God, with Jesus taking over their earthly responsibilities. This divine replacement, he said, assures the faithful that they are never abandoned.

He also mentioned that the deceased are freed from the struggles and frustrations faced during their lives, finding rest from their trials.

Apostle Kwafo added that their good deeds done in Christ will follow them into eternity, offering rewards that contrast sharply with those who act without faith.

He urged all and sundry to live with an eternal perspective, warning that all believers’ works would be tested after death. This reflection on one’s actions serves as a reminder to weigh thoughts and deeds carefully, ensuring they align with their faith.

Apostle Kwafo also called upon unbelievers to reconsider their choices, as judgment follows death for all.
