Professor Bright Kwakye-Awuah, a distinguished Ghanaian researcher from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been honored in Dubai for his pioneering research in potable seawater.

His innovation was recognised as one of the top 100 groundbreaking ideas by Prototypes for Humanity, a global platform celebrating transformative innovations.

The recognition, which took place during an event in Dubai, emphasises the urgent need for sustainable solutions to global water shortages.

Professor Kwakye-Awuah’s work focuses on advanced methods for converting seawater into safe drinking water.

The accolade highlights Professor Kwakye-Awuah’s dedication to addressing critical water challenges, demonstrating the global impact of research from Ghana’s academic institutions.

“The aim for the research is about global water scarcity, whereby a lot of communities don’t have water to aid them in their daily life activities”, Professor Kwakye stated.

The honour underscores the critical role of African scientists in tackling global challenges and calls for greater support for research initiatives in Ghana.
