The Church of Pentecost has inaugurated an Intellectual Property and Compliance Committee to protect its creative works and ensure proper use of its materials and identity.
The committee, chaired by Apostle Dr. Ebenezer Hagan, includes Pastor Dr. Felix Dela Klutse, Elder Lawyer Bernard Bosumprah, Her Honour Deaconess Susanna Nyakotey, Deaconess Mrs. Georgina Asante, Deaconess Professor Gladys Quartey, and Elder Bismark Offei-Ansah.
Inaugurating the committee at the Church’s headquarters, on Wednesday, April 6, 2025, the General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, described it as “a very important committee” tasked with safeguarding the Church’s intellectual property, including songs, books, logos, and other paraphernalia.
He clarified that the initiative is not intended to restrict access to the Church’s works but to ensure proper procedures are followed. Quoting 1 Corinthians 14:40, he stressed that “all things should be done decently and in order,” noting that individuals who wish to use Church materials must seek the necessary approval.
Apostle Obuobi further raised concerns about the unauthorized production and sale of Church-branded items, such as ministry cloths and T-shirts, emphasizing the need to obtain them through the right sources and with proper authorization.
Speaking on the legal implications, committee member Elder Lawyer Bernard Bosumprah noted that the Church, as a legal entity, is bound to comply with Ghana’s laws on intellectual property, including copyright, trademarks, and patents.
He stressed that protecting the Church’s works is not only necessary but a legal obligation, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to operating within the law.
The committee has therefore been mandated to develop strategies, advise the Executive Council, and educate members and the public on intellectual property rights.
The formation of the committee marks a proactive step by The Church of Pentecost to preserve its identity, protect its creations, and ensure compliance with national regulations.
