President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) as the sole authority responsible for regulating and exporting gold from Ghana, describing the move as key to protecting the nation’s resources.
Speaking in Accra, the President said the policy is aimed at improving transparency, reducing illegal mining and gold smuggling, and ensuring the country earns full value from its gold exports.
He assured small-scale miners and licensed dealers that the policy is not meant to sideline them, but to create a fair and well-regulated system that benefits all stakeholders.
President Mahama added that stronger control over gold exports will support economic recovery efforts, help stabilise the cedi, and boost foreign exchange inflows.
He concluded that Ghana’s gold wealth must translate into real development for the benefit of all citizens.
