The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, has challenged Christian leaders to shift their focus from inward-looking Christianity to the Church’s global mandate under the Great Commission.
Speaking at the Global Ministers Conference 2026, Apostle Dr Nyamekye stressed that the primary focus of the gospel is the world, not the Church itself. He explained that the Church was never intended to exist in isolation, but to move deliberately into society as light to those living in spiritual darkness.
According to him, the transformative power of the gospel is most evident when believers intentionally engage cultures, systems and institutions with Kingdom values, saying, “The Church must go into the world to provide light for those groping in darkness.”
He observed that modern Christianity often prioritises personal comfort and individual blessings over societal responsibility, resulting in limited impact despite numerical growth. Apostle Dr Nyamekye cautioned that a Church disconnected from society cannot effectively influence it.
Drawing on the example of the early Church, he noted that believers in the book of Acts did not confine themselves to religious spaces but carried the gospel into cities, cultures and public life, leading to widespread transformation and joy.
He further emphasised that meaningful societal engagement must be empowered by the Holy Spirit, warning that without divine enablement the Church risks offering moral advice without spiritual authority. He therefore urged ministers to raise believers who view their workplaces, professions and communities as mission fields.
Apostle Dr Nyamekye concluded by calling for a renewed commitment to the Great Commission, urging the Church to step boldly into the world with both the message of salvation and the power of the Holy Spirit.
