Interestingly, when you see a Christian today, it is sometimes difficult to identify them. Many people carry the name “Christian” but fail to reflect the life that truly sets them apart. This raises an important question: What does “new life” in Christ mean to you, and how do you uphold it in your daily walk?
The Bible makes it clear that the moment you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you become a new creation. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This new life is not just an improved version of your old self, but a completely transformed nature, one that reflects God Himself (John 1:12).
Think of it this way: just as a cat gives birth to a cat, which naturally displays the behavior of a cat, when you are born again, you receive the nature of Christ. It is only natural, then, that your words, actions, and choices should reflect His character. Christianity is not a label or tradition; it is a way of life, a daily journey of transformation that sets you apart from the world
.
Unfortunately, many Christians today blend in so well with the world that there is no clear distinction between those who know Christ and those who do not. Yet the Bible reminds us in Colossians 3:5: “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.” This means that as believers, we must actively fight against anything in our lives that does not align with the new life in Christ.
The encouraging news is that we are not left alone to struggle in our own strength. God’s grace has appeared to all men, and this grace empowers us to overcome sin. As Titus 2:11-12 teaches: “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.” Grace is not permission to live carelessly; it is the power to live differently.
As Christian youth, we must realize that we have what it takes to live a godly life. God has given us His Spirit,
His Word, and His grace. We have no excuse to remain in the old ways or to live like the world. Instead, we are called to be examples, to shine as lights, and to let the world see the Christ who lives within us.
In conclusion, new life in Christ is not hidden; it is visible. It should be evident in how we speak, how we think, how we dress, and how we conduct ourselves in school, work, and relationships. Christianity is not about eating and sleeping, but about reflecting the very life of God to the world. Let us, therefore, uphold this new life with boldness, discipline, and joy, for the world is watching, and through us, many will be drawn to Christ.
