The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has expressed strong opposition to the recent decision by the United States government to impose a 10% tariff on imports from Ghana.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Association described the move as a violation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) protocols and a threat to Ghana’s economic stability. It warned that the tariff hike could severely affect businesses engaged in international trade, potentially diminishing the country’s global competitiveness.
Mr. Samson Asaki, Executive Secretary of the Association, called for urgent diplomatic engagement between the two countries to avert a looming trade crisis. He is expected to provide further analysis on the implications of the tariff during a media interview later today.
