The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced the full restoration of electricity supply following a widespread system disturbance on Thursday, April 3, 2024. The outage impacted several regions, including Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and other areas in northern Ghana.
The disruption, which occurred at 8:09 p.m., was traced to a fault on the Tafo–Nkawkaw transmission line.
Attempts to restore the line caused adjacent transmission lines to trip, resulting in a significant loss of power generation and affecting the national grid. By 10:57 p.m., GRIDCo’s System Control Centre had successfully stabilized the grid and restored full power.
GRIDCo issued an apology to the general public for the inconvenience and reassured Ghanaians of its commitment to improving power reliability.
The company further urged the public to report any lingering issues through its official hotlines to ensure swift resolution.
Measures are being put in place to prevent future occurrences and strengthen the resilience of the national power infrastructure.
