I told Liz Truss she was going too fast, says Kwasi Kwarteng

Headlines Today, International
Former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has said he warned Liz Truss she was going too fast with her ill-fated economic plans. In his first interview since he was sacked by the then PM, Mr Kwarteng told TalkTV he had warned her to “slow down” after September’s mini-budget. He said he told her it was “mad” to fire him and she would only last “three or four weeks” if she did. “Little did I know it was only going to be six days,” he added. But the decision triggered further protests demanding that he also resign. Hospital officials at the Colombo National Hospital said the injuries came from protesters who were outside the prime minister’s office as well as those who were outside parliament later in the evening. Police had fired tear gas at protesters who attempted to break down the gates of the prime minister’s office in Colombo, befor...

And the timetable will be announced next week.” “So I want to say to the millions of people who voted for us in 2019, many of them voted Conservative, for the first time. Thank you for that incredible mandate. The biggest Conservative majority, since 1987,” he added. As recently as last night Johnson said he intended to stay and fight. But the...
