Former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has said he warned Liz Truss she was going too fast with her ill-fated economic plans. In his first interview since he was sacked by the then PM, Mr Kwarteng told TalkTV he had warned her to “slow down” after September’s mini-budget. He said he told her it was “mad” to fire him and she would only last “three or four weeks” if she did. “Little did I know it was only going to be six days,” he added. Mr Kwarteng was dramatically fired by Ms Truss in October, two weeks after their tax-cutting mini-budget sparked turmoil on financial markets. SIM cards that have been linked to Ghana Cards but not done the second phase of registration will be blocked from accessing data services on November 20 and completely deactivated on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. The Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, announced this in a statement issued on Friday, November 11. She said an announcement will be made on measures to accommodate persons who do not have Ghana Cards to register their SIM cards. This is expected to take place after ongoing consultations have been completed, she noted. Currently, a total of 30,011,082 SIM cards have been linked to Ghana Cards, thereby completing the first phase of the registration process. The findings of the research show that 52.5% of Ghanaians believe that COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict have affected the Ghanaian economy Research conducted by the UK-based Info Research and Assessment UK Ltd shows that a majority of Ghanaians believe the economic challenges facing the country have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The findings of the research show that 52.5% of Ghanaians believe that COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war are the principal factors influencing of the global economy and creating the hardship that has plagued the Ghanaian economy.
