President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27, delivered his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament. The full text of the address is attached below. SONA-Final-Download The SONA, which is in conformity with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, afforded the President an opportunity to highlight his successes and to unveil the Government's agenda for this year. Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, states that the President shall deliver a message on the SONA to Parliament at the start of each session and before the dissolution of Parliament. President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, stating that Ghana’s economy is in crisis and citizens are experiencing severe hardships. Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Thursday, 27th February, in Parliament, he insisted that urgent measures were needed to address the economic downturn. “The state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis and our people are suffering,” President Mahama stated. President John Mahama has in accordance with the Council of State and the Bank of Ghana Act, appointed eleven individuals to form the new governing board of the Bank of Ghana. In a communiqué shared by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, on Wednesday, 26th February, it was announced that the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, will chair the board, with his Deputy Governor, Dr Zakari Mumuni, serving as vice-chair. The board also includes Isaac Adongo, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, as well as Thomas Nyarko Ampem, deputy finance minister nominee. The Queen of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union (Nungua West), Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, known as Naa Gamu, has died after being shot during her enskinment ceremony in Nungua, Accra. The incident occurred on Saturday when a musketry fired during the ceremony struck her in the thigh. Naa Gamu and her husband were being enskinned as queen and chief of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union’s Nungua West branch at the time of the shooting. While the motive behind the gunshot remains unclear, the family has confirmed the arrest of a suspect as investigations continue. The edifice, which cost over GHS 500,000.00 to construct, was recently dedicated by the Tepa Area Head of the church, Apostle David Nii Addo-Pappoe. The construction, which commenced on April 25, 2022, was completed within 32 months. The Director of the Children's Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Samuel Avornyo, has recognised the effort of Madam Doris Amewornu, a physically challenged Sunday School teacher in Dodi District in Hohoe Area of the church. The exploit of Madam Doris was seen when her District Minister, Overseer Daniel Vaeta, posted her on his Facebook page teaching children under trees. The Director honoured during the 2024 End-of-Year Meeting held recently at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh. Pastor Avornyo challenged leaders and Children Workers to be inspired by the efforts of Madam Doris even under challenging conditions.
